Logo to Favicon: Pixel Art Workflow

A fast workflow to turn a logo into a favicon-friendly pixel icon: simplify, pixelate crisply, and test at 16×16/32×32.

Why favicons need simplification

Favicons are tiny. If your logo has thin lines or gradients, it becomes unreadable at 16×16.

Testing checklist (practical)

Before shipping, make sure it passes these quick checks.

  • Readable at 16px and 32px
  • High contrast silhouette
  • Few colors (usually <= 8 for best clarity)

Quick fixes

If your favicon fails the checklist, fix it with one of these changes.

  • Blurry → use Nearest
  • Too detailed → increase pixel size
  • Too many colors → lower maxColors to 4–8
